What is the mikvah?
- A mikvah (מִקְוֶה, mikveh — “a gathering of water”) is a pool of natural water used for spiritual purification.
- Its central use is family purity (taharat hamishpachah): a married woman immerses each month before the couple resume intimacy — a practice the Torah itself grounds in Vayikra (Leviticus) 15 and 18.
- The mikvah is also used for conversion, before a wedding, and to immerse new dishes (a separate keilim mikvah). Many men immerse before Shabbat and Yom Kippur as a custom.
- Everything happens privately, with a trained attendant. Your first visit, just call and say it’s your first time.
