What this lesson is about

Kabbalah reads the seven days as seven qualities of God, and Adam as one soul that holds every soul. Most of this lesson is Later / Mystical Tradition — a map, not the plain text.

The seven days are seven qualities

Kabbalistic reading of Bereishit 1
“The heavens and the earth were finished… and God blessed the seventh day and made it holy.”
Step by step
  1. The idea. In Kabbalah, the “days” of creation are also the seven lower Sefirot — the seven ways God expresses Himself to the world. See the table below.
  2. In the plain text. Day 2 is the only day without “it was good”; day 3 has it twice (Genesis 1:6–13). Rashi gives the classical reason: the work of the waters was finished only on day 3.
  3. Shabbat is Kingship. The seventh day receives everything the six days gave. The specific sources for each pairing require verification.

One soul that holds every soul

The Arizal, Sha’ar HaGilgulim
Adam’s soul contained all human souls, like one great tree whose sparks are every soul that would ever live.
Step by step
  1. The Midrash (Shemot Rabbah 40:3; exact citation requires verification) says God showed Adam every future generation.
  2. The Arizal (16th century) teaches that when Adam sinned, the sparks scattered. Every person’s life work is to gather and repair their part — that is tikkun.
  3. What to take from it. The Mishnah said one person is a whole world. The Arizal says it literally: your mitzvot repair a piece of the first soul.

Think it through
If every day of the week carries a different quality of God, which day of your week feels most like Kindness, and which like Strength?Think about it first — then tap for discussion notes

There is no right answer. The point is that the week has a shape, and it builds toward Shabbat. Each day adds something, and Friday night receives it all.

Key takeaways
  • Seven days, seven qualities of God (Later / Mystical Tradition).
  • Shabbat is Kingship — the day that receives everything.
  • Every soul is a spark of the first soul; mitzvot repair it (the Arizal).
